PRESERVING CAPE HERITAGE AND CULTURE THROUGH EXPLORING VISUAL ARTS AND EDUCATION

Mother City

A poem by Grade 10 student at The Leadership College

THROUGH YOUR PEN

Noraan Elnaggar

I was born in this land,

Yet regret every moment away

From it's sand.

In Bo-kaap's streets, the colours

Shine.

Of those people who fought for their rights.

Their laughter and pain still remains,

Echoes of hope through their pain.

From Robben Island's shore,

To District six, hearts still beat.

Though I have wandered, far and wide,

My heart remains where the ocean

Meets the tide.

In this mother city, where my heart beats.
